  • Plain chocolate (250 g)
  • Butter (175 g)
  • Granulated Sugar (175 g)
  • Eggs (5)
  • Flour (125 g)
  • Milk (2 tablespoons)
  • Salt (pinch)

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and prepare an 8-inch round springform cake pan by greasing and lining the bottom with baking parchment.
  2. In a heatproof bowl, break the plain chocolate into pieces and melt it over a saucepan of simmering water, stirring until smooth. Alternatively, you can melt it in the microwave for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the butter and granulated sugar, and cream them together using a wooden spoon until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  4. Gradually incorporate the eggs, adding a bit of flour if the mixture starts to curdle.
  5. Fold in the remaining flour, the cooled melted chocolate, and milk until the batter is smooth.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake tin and bake for 50-55 minutes, or until the center is firm and a skewer inserted comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool in the tin for 10 minutes before turning it out to cool completely on a wire rack.
