- penne rigate (1 lb)
- olive oil (1/4 cup)
- garlic (3 cloves)
- chopped tomatoes (1 can)
- red chili flakes (1/2 tsp)
- italian seasoning (1/2 tsp)
- basil (6 leaves)
- Parmigiano-Reggiano (to taste)

- Start by boiling a large pot of water. Once it's boiling, add kosher salt and then the penne rigate. Cook according to package directions, approximately 9 minutes.
- In a large skillet set over medium-high heat, pour in olive oil and let it heat until shimmering. Add the garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in the chopped tomatoes, red chili flakes, Italian seasoning, and season with salt and pepper to your liking. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook for 5 minutes.
- Remove the skillet from the heat and fold in the basil leaves.
- Drain the cooked pasta and mix it into the sauce. Serve warm, garnished with a sprinkle of Parmigiano-Reggiano and additional basil if desired.
