  • Milk (1 litre)
  • Sugar (300 g)
  • Baking Soda (1/4 tsp)
  • Vanilla Extract (1 tsp)

  1. In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, combine 1 litre of milk, 300g of sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda.
  2. Cook the mixture over low heat, stirring continuously to avoid burning.
  3. Keep cooking and stirring frequently until it thickens and turns a caramel color, which should take about 1-2 hours.
  4. Once thickened, add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and stir well.
  5. Allow the dulce de leche to cool before transferring it to a jar; it will continue to thicken as it cools.
