Ingredients

  • Minced Beef (900 g)
  • Plain Flour (4 cups)
  • Butter (250 g)
  • Water (1 cup)
  • Salt (1 tsp)
  • Curry Powder (1 tsp)
  • Allspice (1 tsp)
  • Black Pepper (1/2 tsp)
  • Vegetable Oil (2 tbsp)
  • Onions (1 1/2 cups)
  • Ground Garlic (2 tsp)
  • Thyme (1 tbsp)
  • Tomato Ketchup (2 tbsp)
  • Egg (1 beaten)
  • Water (2 cups)
  • Water (1/4 cup)

Instructions

Steps

  1. Prepare the Pastry Dough: In a large bowl, combine 4 cups of plain flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of curry powder. Mix well.

  2. Rub 250g of butter into the flour until small pieces remain coated in flour.

  3. Gradually add 1 cup of ice water, mixing with your hands until a dough forms. Add more ice water, 2 to 3 tablespoons at a time, if necessary.

  4. Divide the dough into 2 large pieces, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Alternatively, cut into 10 to 12 pieces, cover, and chill.

  5. Make the Filling: In a large bowl, add 900g of minced beef, 1 teaspoon of allspice, and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper. Mix and set aside.

  6. Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a skillet. Add 1 cup of onions and sauté until translucent.

  7. Stir in 2 teaspoons of ground garlic, 1 tablespoon of thyme, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt; cook for another minute.

  8. Add the seasoned beef to the skillet, breaking up clumps, and cook until browned. Incorporate 2 tablespoons of tomato ketchup and adjust seasoning as needed.

  9. Pour in 2 cups of water, bring to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer until thickened. Stir in 1/2 cup of onions and let cool completely.

  10. Assemble the Patties: Beat 1 egg with 1 tablespoon of water for an egg wash. Roll out the dough on a floured surface into circles.

  11. Place about 3 tablespoons of filling on one half of each circle. Moisten edges with water, fold over, and seal with a fork. Trim excess dough if necessary.

  12. Refrigerate the formed patties while preheating the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  13. Brush the patties with the egg wash before baking. Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool on wire racks and serve warm.
